IC Iron Meteorites

Description: The iron meteorites of this small group are quite similar to the members of the IAB group. Most of them are coarse octahedrites, although other structural classes are represented in some members. Most IC irons contain abundant dark inclusions of the iron-carbide cohenite, although silicate inclusions are missing.

Formation history & Origin: Regarding elemental abundances, the IC irons display lower values of the trace elements arsenic and gold, and it is thought that they formed on a separate parent body than the IAB/WIN parent body.

Members: This small group of iron meteorites counts just eleven members. Well-known, representative members of the IC group include the meteorites of Arispe, Bendegó, and Mount Dooling.
