Krasnojarsk Pallasite
Krasnojarsk is one of the most historically important meteorites ever discovered and the original specimen that gave rise to the entire pallasite class of meteorites.
Discovered in Siberia during the 18th century, this extraordinary stony-iron meteorite attracted the attention of the German naturalist Peter Simon Pallas, who carefully studied its unusual structure composed of olivine crystals embedded within iron-nickel metal.
Its scientific importance became so fundamental that all meteorites of this type were later named pallasites in honor of Pallas and his pioneering observations.
Krasnojarsk, also historically known as the Pallas Iron, became the type specimen for all pallasite meteorites.
